Our School Day
School times and Punctuality
Our school times are 8:55am to 3.30pm – Monday to Friday during term time. Our school gate opens at 8:45am and closes prompt at 8:55am to ensure all children are in school ready for learning to start at 9:00am. It is crucial that children are on time and punctual to ensure no missed learning opportunities. To ensure children start their day well, we provide free bagels and crumpets to all children every day from 8:45am to 8:55am in the main playground.
We provide ‘Academic Mentoring’ for our Year 6 children and this is offered Monday to Thursday, with breakfast club spaces offered for free at 7:45am for the children selected. Registers change every half term and this is communicated to parents via email every half term.
Parents are very welcome in the school playground from 8.45am with their children using the main entrance to the school. Children should never be left unsupervised in the playground and always attend school in full school uniform.
Years 1, 2 and 3 have their morning break from 10:45am – 11:00am. Years 4, 5 and 6 have their morning break from 11:05am – 11:20am. Children in KSI (Years 1 and 2) also have a daily afternoon break.
Lunchtime
At Harry Gosling Primary School, we proudly embrace the Tower Hamlets Fantastic Food in Schools initiative, which promotes nutritious, high-quality meals for all children. Through our commitment to family-style dining, we create a warm, inclusive atmosphere where children and staff share meals together, fostering a sense of community and encouraging positive social interactions. This approach not only supports healthy eating habits but also teaches valuable life skills such as collaboration, respect, and responsibility, enriching the overall dining experience for our pupils.

Home time
Home time for all classes is at 3:30 pm, and the school gate opens for parents at 3:25 pm.
- Nursery and Reception: Children are to be collected from their classrooms in the Early Years playground.
- Years 1 and 2: Children are collected from their classrooms on the ground floor. To ensure everyone's safety, we operate a one-way system for parents. Please follow the correct entry and exit routes.
- Years 3, 4, 5, and 6: Children are collected from the main playground. We kindly ask parents and carers to remain patient and line up, as the safety and security of pupils are our highest priorities.
If you wish to speak to the class teacher, please wait until all children have been dismissed to ensure the smooth running of home time.
Collection by Others
If someone other than the usual person is collecting your child, please inform the school office by 3:00 pm. A password is required for security purposes. If you are collecting a child you don’t normally collect, please be prepared for a slight delay as we verify the information.
Year 6 Independent Travel
Parents of Year 6 pupils who wish their child to walk home independently must first speak with the class teacher and then provide written consent to the school.
We encourage all parents, visitors, and families to read our Parental Engagement and Code of Conduct Policy to understand our expectations and support a safe and respectful school environment.
